Tom Petty passing away brought back a lot of memories and sadness. For me, it was a reminder of days past filled with ideals and future that I could make.
I was a freshman at college, my second roommate Kyle was a skinny, long haired rocker. He studied Mechanical Engineering. He drove a Monza with a V8. More importantly he listened to music that was totally different to what I had grown up hearing. I heard albums by Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, the Who, Nazareth and eventually Tom Petty. It was early 1980 when he started playing Damn the Torpedoes. It wasn't my style at all. In those days you listened to the entire album on vinyl or tape. You listened a lot. Sometimes you sat by the record player and moved the needle, but generally you listened a lot. I started to appreciate the music and the innovation of Tom Petty. Breakdown is what really happened.
This time in my life, I did some good things and some not so good.
What I learned was that I had not one to blame for anything that I did or didn't do. I regret what I didn't do.
Tom Petty this past weekend was totally overwhelmed on TV and social media because of the incident in Las Vegas. A tragedy that will be remembered for awhile. It will be a piece of American history that is replayed over and over, and less so as the years pass. Much like 9/11, it will become an annual memory with less and less impact on the coming generations.
Tom Petty will sell a lot of music during this week. Probably his greatest hits albums.
Much like music, history is a greatest hits event. You have to survey the entire history of America to understand what makes the country great.
If you want to pay tribute to Tom Petty listen to an entire album or 2 a few times. Understand the songs to understand the vision and the man. Don't just play a hit or 2.
America, remember why your country came to be. There is a lot of sacrifice for what we perceived to be right, but there was a lot sacrificed for what was really right. Play the entire album, just not a few songs to know America.

Fundamental Change
We are no longer governing our government, our government is governing the people. It is no longer the what the people want, it is what government thinks is best for the people.
The reason we became a country was to respect religious belief (seemingly more important at that time) and taxation without representation. There are a lot of things that drove the colonies to fight Britian.
We have no choice in what the EPA says and does. The EPA costs us money. This agency of the government is not beholding to the people. They are not elected, they are appointed. We have no input in their decisions, and if the plans they enacted will cost us more of our disposable income, so be it. We have no voice, we can't vote on it. We just have to accept it. Is this what our forefathers wanted for us.
The government decides that we all need insurance (auto and health). If you don't have health insurance you pay for not participating. Did we have the opportunity as a country to vote for this proposal? No. Isn't this taxation without representation.
We have no choice in what the tax rate is, it is what the government decides. Another decision made for us, and not a choice of the people.
The list goes on.
The federal government has a monthly payroll of 52 billion.

WHAT CAN WE DO?
We do have a choice, we can vote. We do have a choice we can run for office. We do have a choice, rally and demand change.
What is good for the people should be good for those that govern and rule. If we have to pay taxes, they should pay taxes or no longer be employed. If we are entitled to the "affordable care act", so should be those that hold government jobs. If our kids are to follow a government dictated diet, so should those that are in government. The elected officials should have no retirement plan, they should rely on social security as all of the civilian population does. We should not have to subsidize their lifestyle.
We have returned to the era of those who ruled are privileged to dictate to the people.
It is not a government for the privileged, but a government for all the people.
In closing, the retirement plans of those that have severed in government should be under the same constraints and rules that govern social security. If a former president's personal income exceeds his retirement pay it should be reduced accordingly. This should also apply to their domiciles and security staffing and private staffing. racism and bigortry in america
Our country hasn't really overcome racism. Why? We still refer to skin color as means of distinction. If we continue to refer to black, yellow, red, white, etc. when discussing issues we are racists. A person is a person regardless of race or creed.
If someone is killed does it matter what race they are? No. Murder is not acceptable regardless of race.
The media and politicians need to change. They should not be flaming the fire with racism and bigotry. The media is struggling to remain relevant in the ever changing information age. Just sitting down and listening to the various news outlets during the week and on a Sunday is indicative of the division within our society, media and elected officials.

The Decline of America
It is humorous to contemplate why America is in decline, because it isn't caused by the Government, it is caused by the people. We the people are the problem, we choose who represents us in the primaries and elections. We should make them uphold and respect the law as it was and as it is written when this great country was formed.

How many people have read this document the constitution? It is the manual or instructions that shows us how to operate the government. Sadly, we all want to take the short cuts and trust someone else to tell us how it works. I guess we want the book, "The Constitution for Dummies." We will buy this book and never read it and our government will not change.
Today, we want to blame everyone but ourselves for the circumstances that have put our country where it is economically, politically and morally. We no longer want to work, we only expect that we are owed. Look at our country as a whole and and you will have your answer.

What is sad to me is that we need to recognize what the Laws of Nature and Nature's God are, and when we as a country fail to do that we will fail just as the Roman Empire did. Sadly the similarities are the same for this great country and that of the Roman Empire. When the moral course of the country is lost and that compass no longer functions we begin the decline.
The people define the course of America, and the people can correct that course only if the choose to do it. If the real Americans don't speak nothing will change.
If we don't read the manual, understand our rights, understand that the government is subservient to the people, and that the Constitution must be upheld, we will only be led down the path of failure.

The New Revolution
I graduated high school in 1979 and it is our generation that has slowly shaped the country we come to live in today. I am sad at what I see. I don't see a country that will offer the diversity of opportunity to my son and his family. I don't see a country that represents the freedom that our forefathers fought to have and give to future generations. I don't see a government of the people, for the people, by people... I don't see a country that tolerates religious freedom and expression of those beliefs. I don't see a country that seemingly doesn't exemplify life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The American people have slowly given up the ideals of democracy, capitalism and freedom to become ensnared in a trap that some how claims we are entitled. The only thing we are entitled to is our own mistakes and the consequences of those choices.
In the last 20 years our country has really changed. Is it for the better or the worse?

Change
Change.
Isn't there something we would like to CHANGE in ourselves or others. Change...what a great word, but isn't it difficult to implement.
I look back at the election and I recognize one thing. Conservative talk radio needs to change. The Republican party needs to change. Voters need to change in order to bring about change.
If you have a routine in place, where you get your hair cut, where you buy your groceries, or even your coffee; you are comfortable. Being comfortable is hard to change.
Why do we need to see change? Change is that mutation that pushes us to the next level. Change is something that results in making something work different or even better.
If the country is going to change and take a different path a new message and an image has to be constructed. This is true with everything. If you are starting a business you have to have an image, a message, and you have to make to it work.
Anything we try to change has to succeed on all levels.
Change = goal + image + message
If you want to lose weight it involves change.
If you want to quit smoking you have to change.
If you want to improve your life you have to change.
Change.

Conservative Radio Must Endorse Romney
Mark Levin doesn't endorse Mitt Romney, he is saying "Don't vote for Obama." It is a mistake to not endorse Romney. Why? It means you don't support him, and if you don't support him why should your listeners support him. What does it mean not to support Romney? It means you aren't going to vote for him. Bill Clinton endorsed and spoke on Obama's behalf, why can't conservative radio talk hosts.
Why should I support Mark Levin's platform of not voting for Obama? Because that isn't a reason. You can't win an Election with, "Don't vote for Obama, he will take us to the point of no return." Wow that is a real reason to vote for Romney. Obama will increase the debt, don't vote for him. Vote for the guy I don't endorse. Obama is going to make our country a socialist country, don't vote for him. Vote for the guy I don't endorse. This is a real winning strategy for conservative radio when they don't even endorse the best candidate running for President. We can't grab Reagan DNA and clone him for this election. Endorse Romney and lead him to victory with your support.
The last few days we have been hearing about the leaked video of Romney's, and the liberal media is having a field day. I think it is the best thing to happen to Romney. It was simple, it was blunt, and it demonstrated that Romney has an opinion.
The part of the video that talks about the 47% is one of the best, because he talks about his campaign having to focus on the 53%. What is wrong with that? Romney finally said something that has substance.
What has happened to Ryan during this time? This video has muted him.
Back to Romney. This video has set the ground work for Romney to come out with his economic plan, his strategy for creating 12 million jobs, and his plan for reducing the budget deficit. He has to take opportunity of this free press and define himself as a Candidate and his plan for the country. I want specifics not a speech Obama could make, any candidate could make or even one that I could make. Romney needs to build traction by showing us he has the courage to speak the who, what, where, when, how and why of his plan. He has to get to the details.

Defining America
Once again an election for the leadership of our country will be determined by the choice of words used and their perceived meaning. Can we really trust what we are hearing, being told, or viewing in a commercial?
I listen to conservative radio and get tired of the diatribe or the method of spreading the message. I listen to the liberal news and radio shows and get tired of their diatribe and methods as well.
I guess politics is learning and understanding. You can't take a candidate's view, presentation, or speech for the reality of the issues. You have to discover them for yourself and then make a decision.
Knowing what the country needs starts with your state elected officials who represent you on the grassroots level. You have to have a presence on that level and be involved. Your federally elected officials are next- the Congressman. You really need to know what type of person they are, what their ideals are and what, if anything, they will really do when they get to Washington. The President has power, but he is controlled by the House and Senate.
Unfortunately today we have a shambles on our hands. I don't think neither party really represents the people. Sadly, I don't think America is once what it was either. The dysfunctional Congress and Executive branch really represents the American Public. Yes, I just said that Government doesn't represent the people, but in fact I think it does.
We have been polarized since this Depression has started and it has changed how our government works. Our government works by getting re-elected and not acting on the best interest of the country.
This election, of all offices, will be determined by which set of values shows up at the polls. They will determine the course.
Government is only as good as the vision of those who run, manipulate and enact change. Are you ready?

Why the Republican Presidential Candidates are Struggling
Why can't a Republican candidate get a foothold with the Republican or Conservative electorate?
1. They don't come across as being genuine.
2. They seem opportunistic rather then visionary.
3. They don't connect with the common person.
4. Where is the message or campaign theme?
I can't shake this feeling that the Republican Party doesn't want to win this election again. Four years ago they picked an aging, stiff and bland candidate who had to compete against a young, well spoken and opportunistic Democrat who had a vision. Today President Obama's vision from that campaign, so long ago, has turned into a dream and a far fetched one at that. But he had a vision and drive. I don't see that from the Republican Field.
The Candidates (all of them) need to go back and look at Bill Clinton's campaign to upset the George H. Bush back in 1992. 20 years ago, a man from Arkansas, Bill Clinton coined a phrase,
"It's the economy, stupid!"
That one phrase was the beginning of the end for then President Bush. It didn't matter that it wasn't really the truth. It resonated. Guess what people, it is sure as hell true today.
I don't see one candidate today espousing the same phrase. People would catch on because the focus is on them and not you. What happened to the phrase many candidates have used in the past, "Are you better off today then you were four years ago?" That is the message and that message isn't out there. We want to hear what you will do for us and not what you want to do.
You have candidates talking about everything but what is needed for the common man. A 59 step plan, as soon as I heard 59 I tuned out. A colony on the Moon, at least some of will have a chance to live some where our government isn't. Stop making all of these stump speeches that appeal to the state you are in today, but focus on the solutions that address the general problems:
1. Unemployment
2. Foreclosures
3. Stagnant salaries and every increasing cost of fuel, food and utilities.
4. A government that is out of control on spending that will eventually force all of us to pay more taxes.
What happened to a candidate listening to me or all of us? Hell, the government and our elected officials don't even listen, so what do we expect from a person wanting to be President?
1. Genuine.
We all have crap meters and the only candidate that expressing his true beliefs is Ron Paul. He connects because he is genuinely being himself. Do I like his political leanings, no, but I know what I would be getting.
Romney, once again is coming across like some B actor in a bad movie with a bad script. Mitt be yourself, if you can't be yourself I am sorry to say you will not be President. People recognize you for what you are and that is fake.
Gingrich is genuine if you can figure out which person he is on a give day or week. Is he that Clinton era Speaker of the House, the man in search of a new wife, a man working for Fannie and Freddie, a man with more so called enemies then friends, or the silver haired man with the silver tongue. I have been swayed his one liners or his take on the Beltway, but can you trust him?
Santorum is from Pennsylvania and won as a Republican in a Democratic state, who cares. What is his career path that qualifies him to be President? I hope it wasn't being a Senator. Generally a President who has been a Senator makes for a poor President, just look at the guy who is in office now. All I know about Santorum is he became a Republican Senator in a Democratic state. I just went to his web page and it sure doesn't tell me who he is. All he wants is enough money from me, so he can mail me a sweater vest. Wow.
I watch the debates, I listen to interviews, and this is my perception. Nothing personal enough to touch the heart of a voter. Which one of them could you give a trillion dollars to and expect to get it back with interest?
2. Visionary
I know why you are running for President, so you can be President. Why are you really running for President. I haven't heard that yet. Repeal Obama-care, that is your message. Cut taxes, original but what does it matter when I can barely make ends meet. Balance the budget, damn you are getting there. You will promise anything like the current President did and totally forget what you promised on the day you are sworn in.
If I could tell you what visionary is for each of these candidates I certainly wouldn't be writing this rarely read blog.
I can only make a few suggestions on developing a Vision or campaign theme, go read the history of the 1992 campaign of Bill Clinton or the 1980 campaign of Ronald Reagan.
What makes a great President is a great Speaker of the House and President of the Senate. We haven't had that for many years.
3. Connecting with the Common Man
Maybe there should be a show, Undercover Presidential Candidate, allowing these wannabes to see what real life is for a person who has to struggle with it day in and day out.
Instead of a debate I want a real life situation tests. Can any of these guys fill out a W-2, balance a check book, take my pay check buy groceries, fill up a car with gas, and pay a 29% interest credit card bill? Tell your boss your child is sick and need to leave to take care of them, and then ask a few more times. See what you don't have much in your savings or checking and that your 401K has tanked for 4 years, and figure out how you are going to help your child through college and retire. Realize that oranges are now sold by the piece and not the pound.
Connect by telling me you will have a balanced budget as President, since this President has never even submitted a budget. Connect by telling me you will veto any bill with earmarks. Connect by telling me that you will veto any bill pr budget that spends more money then the government takes in. Connect by telling me the truth regarding what you can do and can't do when you are President. Tell the truth.

Ron Paul - Restore America Now
Mitt Romney - Believe in America
This one is harder:
New Gingrich - "Winning the Future Together" from the google search results
- Help Win Florida
- 21st Century Contract with America
None of these are particularly great.
The courage to fight for America, what is Santorum fighting for? I have no clue. We aren't at war yet. If he is fighting the government, then it is an oxymoron. Just a slogan that doesn't say anything.
Restore America Now, makes it sound like Ron Paul wants to fix an old car. We all know if you restore a classic car you generally spend more then the car is worth. This slogan just doesn't work. Generally, when someone restores something it is a work in progress that takes longer to do then you intended. This slogan should disqualify him from being President, including the fact he has two first names.
Believe in America, this from a candidate we don't believe. Romney needs to Believe in himself first, then we will believe. Same conclusion as Ron Paul's slogan.
Finally, Gingrich's multiple slogans for the multiple personalities? The first one is the best of all the candidates, "Winning the Future Together". This is a slogan that tries to bring the people into the campaign. Sadly, I didn't see it anywhere on the home page. But I did see, Help Win Florida which sounds like a lottery or is he trying to keep the Cubans from invading Florida. The last one about a contract, fat chance I could read and understand a contract any candidate would write, but I doubt I could read it all before his term is over. Besides, how is Gingrich going to get 300 million signatures.

Four years ago they picked an aging, stiff and bland candidate who had to compete against a young, well spoken and opportunistic Democrat who had a vision. Today President Obama's vision from that campaign, so long ago, has turned into a dream and a far fetched one at that. But he had a vision and drive. I don't see that from the Republican Field.
The Candidates (all of them) need to go back and look at Bill Clinton's campaign to upset the George H. Bush back in 1992. 20 years ago, a man from Arkansas, Bill Clinton coined a phrase,
"It's the economy, stupid!"
That one phrase was the beginning of the end for then President Bush. It didn't matter that it wasn't really the truth. It resonated. Guess what people, it is sure as hell true today.
I don't see one candidate today espousing the same phrase. People would catch on because the focus is on them and not you. What happened to the phrase many candidates have used in the past, "Are you better off today then you were four years ago?" That is the message and that message isn't out there. We want to hear what you will do for us and not what you want to do.
You have candidates talking about everything but what is needed for the common man. A 59 step plan, as soon as I heard 59 I tuned out. A colony on the Moon, at least some of will have a chance to live some where our government isn't. Stop making all of these stump speeches that appeal to the state you are in today, but focus on the solutions that address the general problems:
1. Unemployment
2. Foreclosures
3. Stagnant salaries and every increasing cost of fuel, food and utilities.
4. A government that is out of control on spending that will eventually force all of us to pay more taxes.
What happened to a candidate listening to me or all of us? Hell, the government and our elected officials don't even listen, so what do we expect from a person wanting to be President?
1. Genuine.
We all have crap meters and the only candidate that expressing his true beliefs is Ron Paul. He connects because he is genuinely being himself. Do I like his political leanings, no, but I know what I would be getting.
Romney, once again is coming across like some B actor in a bad movie with a bad script. Mitt be yourself, if you can't be yourself I am sorry to say you will not be President. People recognize you for what you are and that is fake.
Gingrich is genuine if you can figure out which person he is on a give day or week. Is he that Clinton era Speaker of the House, the man in search of a new wife, a man working for Fannie and Freddie, a man with more so called enemies then friends, or the silver haired man with the silver tongue. I have been swayed his one liners or his take on the Beltway, but can you trust him?
Santorum is from Pennsylvania and won as a Republican in a Democratic state, who cares. What is his career path that qualifies him to be President? I hope it wasn't being a Senator. Generally a President who has been a Senator makes for a poor President, just look at the guy who is in office now. All I know about Santorum is he became a Republican Senator in a Democratic state. I just went to his web page and it sure doesn't tell me who he is. All he wants is enough money from me, so he can mail me a sweater vest. Wow.
I watch the debates, I listen to interviews, and this is my perception. Nothing personal enough to touch the heart of a voter. Which one of them could you give a trillion dollars to and expect to get it back with interest?
2. Visionary
I know why you are running for President, so you can be President. Why are you really running for President. I haven't heard that yet. Repeal Obama-care, that is your message. Cut taxes, original but what does it matter when I can barely make ends meet. Balance the budget, damn you are getting there. You will promise anything like the current President did and totally forget what you promised on the day you are sworn in.
If I could tell you what visionary is for each of these candidates I certainly wouldn't be writing this rarely read blog.
I can only make a few suggestions on developing a Vision or campaign theme, go read the history of the 1992 campaign of Bill Clinton or the 1980 campaign of Ronald Reagan.
What makes a great President is a great Speaker of the House and President of the Senate. We haven't had that for many years.
3. Connecting with the Common Man
Maybe there should be a show, Undercover Presidential Candidate, allowing these wannabes to see what real life is for a person who has to struggle with it day in and day out.
Instead of a debate I want a real life situation tests. Can any of these guys fill out a W-2, balance a check book, take my pay check buy groceries, fill up a car with gas, and pay a 29% interest credit card bill? Tell your boss your child is sick and need to leave to take care of them, and then ask a few more times. See what you don't have much in your savings or checking and that your 401K has tanked for 4 years, and figure out how you are going to help your child through college and retire. Realize that oranges are now sold by the piece and not the pound.
Connect by telling me you will have a balanced budget as President, since this President has never even submitted a budget. Connect by telling me you will veto any bill with earmarks. Connect by telling me that you will veto any bill pr budget that spends more money then the government takes in. Connect by telling me the truth regarding what you can do and can't do when you are President. Tell the truth.

None of these are particularly great.
The courage to fight for America, what is Santorum fighting for? I have no clue. We aren't at war yet. If he is fighting the government, then it is an oxymoron. Just a slogan that doesn't say anything.
Restore America Now, makes it sound like Ron Paul wants to fix an old car. We all know if you restore a classic car you generally spend more then the car is worth. This slogan just doesn't work. Generally, when someone restores something it is a work in progress that takes longer to do then you intended. This slogan should disqualify him from being President, including the fact he has two first names.
Believe in America, this from a candidate we don't believe. Romney needs to Believe in himself first, then we will believe. Same conclusion as Ron Paul's slogan.
Finally, Gingrich's multiple slogans for the multiple personalities? The first one is the best of all the candidates, "Winning the Future Together". This is a slogan that tries to bring the people into the campaign. Sadly, I didn't see it anywhere on the home page. But I did see, Help Win Florida which sounds like a lottery or is he trying to keep the Cubans from invading Florida. The last one about a contract, fat chance I could read and understand a contract any candidate would write, but I doubt I could read it all before his term is over. Besides, how is Gingrich going to get 300 million signatures.
You know, all I want is "One of the People for the People."

I would never make a living blogging. Looking at my minuscule volume of posts is very indicative of that statement.
1. The economy is still the biggest issue.
2. The out of control debt.
3. Affordable health care for the entire population.
4. Strengthening social security and medicare with tax reform.
5. Tax reform that involves fiscal responsibility.
6. Revise the amount and recipients of foreign aid.
Change starts with each and everyone of us.
I looked back at my January 10, 2010 post and it ended as follows:
The Republicans or the conservatives need to find a dynamic spokesman and formulate a message. There is currently no person in the public eye willing to take the current Government to task with a message that is going to bring hope and unify the conservatives into taking control during the mid-term elections and eventually the Presidency. What is the message? We the people have had to tighten our belts and become a nation of savers rather then credit whores. The message needs to focus on the this:
1. The economy is still the biggest issue.
2. The out of control debt.
3. Affordable health care for the entire population.
4. Strengthening social security and medicare with tax reform.
5. Tax reform that involves fiscal responsibility.
6. Revise the amount and recipients of foreign aid.
Change starts with each and everyone of us.
As we can see things have not changed much. In fact it has gotten worse. There are a few items not listed that have really impacted our wallets and disposable income. First is the cost of fuel and energy since that post, and the second is the cost of food as a whole.
One thing that changed was the control of the House of Representatives shifted to the Republicans. What have they done? Honestly, nothing but really disappoint. They have failed to maintain their message, not use their power to bring about change, and unfortunately improve the image of Obama.
As we roll into the election of 2012 which is called the most important of our life time as conservatives we have seen each front runner of a Republican candidate fall to the way side while Romney slowly builds his momentum. I fear that we pushing Obama into a win. Is our only salvation Hillary Clinton making a run as a 3rd party candidate? Is our only salvation the religious conservative voter finding a candidate to back and push him home, and will the Tea Party fall in line?
The Tea Party has been very quiet, it seems that they have just become a footnote in history. On that note...time for a cup roobios tea and think what about what should have been instead of the ugly reality we are to face.
Change starts with each of us, and do we have the determination our forefathers had to bring change? Just do it.

Economic Recovery, History and the 4th of July.
It is sad when we hear the phrase, "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce." Karl Marx said this. The more famous saying we hear is, "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat," Edmund Burke said this in the late 1700's.
I start this blog with these phrases to contemplate the issues that I am facing. This is one of the first times that I have started to think about my future for my family's sake. What will I being doing in 5 years and will it be good enough to provide for my family? Will I be able to put my son through college? Will I have enough to retire on.
Some of us have 401K accounts, and the majority of those are in mutual funds. We have suffered some huge losses and we have seen them come back some what during the past two years. Let us look at a number from the Wall Street:

We have seen spikes in the stock market since the recession and most of us would like to recoup our 401K as quickly as possible. But if history is an indicator we have a long way to go. It took the economy of the 1930's and 19640's 21 years to recoup it's losses.
Let us look at some recent history that some of us grew up with, the Jimmy Carter era of 18% interest rates and a gas shortage that saw gas go from 25 cents a gallon to 50 cents, etc. What did the market look like in those years:

As we can see there are peaks and valleys in the 1970's through the early 1980's, but we need to know that we are going to need a good decade to recover from the economic turmoil. Unemployment was high as well. But one disadvantage we have is our national debt.
You may have seen headlines from a few days ago that we are approaching WWII debt levels. What does this mean for us? We have to tighten our belts and be prepared to sacrifice in order to get out of this mess.
I have begun the same approach. Tighten the belt and be prepared for the ups and downs of the coming decade.
1982 was the last time we saw unemployment at 9.7% and prior to that it was in the early 1940's. The only thing I recall from the early 70's was the high interest rates for mortgages and loans. Doubling your savings during those years was easy, rates went as high as 21%. It is a little harder to do today with savings accounts only earning 3% or less. We all tend to risk our money in the stock market in hopes of earning more. The stock market is a gamble, and when you gamble you take the risks associated.
I think the economic turn of 2010 to 2019 will hinge on real estate. Why real estate? More people have mortgages then in the our history. The amount of secured debt hinges on our country's economic growth, the fiscal responsibility that our government has to us the people, and the responsibility of the people to pay their debts.
Finally, I decided to really read the Declaration of Independence for the first time since high school. It is amazing how much of what is said is totally applicable to our times. Here are a few phrases that stand out and draw your own conclusions:
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

Conservatives Need to Act
It is time for the conservative movement to ACT instead of reacting. Our country's government has spun out of control because of the Democratic and Republican parties. Each party is more concerned about it's position and role within the government rather then with “We the people“.
President Obama was looked at as change during his campaign and eventual election. I believe President Obama would have had a difficult time being elected if the Republicans had really mounted a serious effort to win the election. The McCain/Palin ballot was in all essence a rollover move by the Republicans, but with this "conservative" ballot the Republicans lost more power within the Congress due to a poor image and message.
But once again the Republican Party and the conservatives are not making themselves heard in a constructive and forward thinking position. The lack of leadership within the conservative movement in the USA is a large hindrance towards dictating the direction the country and forthcoming campaign must move in. The message is still reacting to the issues rather then resolving the issues with a message and and proposed solutions.
The Republicans have no one to blame but themselves. Rather then take the penny pinching formula the Republican Congress put forth under President Clinton, they became an irresponsible government that emulated the Democratic Party in spending. This resulted in the negative image of President GW Bush along with the nebulous concept of a war on terrorism. These two issues led to the eventual downfall of the Republicans.
The Democrats have always controlled the entitlement portion of the population, and it is the swing in mood of the tax-paying base that has determined which party rules and when they rule. Should we be surprised by the waffling of President Obama? Absolutely not! His campaign was one that only reacted to the current issues of the country, i.e. the war on terrorism, spending and eventually the financial collapse of the banking sector. He only promised change and an openness that would embrace the suffering voters of the USA. He touch the voters who wanted a change. But as in every election, the winning candidate makes promise after promise and reneges on promise after promise. President Obama never proposed detailed plans, but he touch on the desires of the masses in such a generalized manner that he garnered more and more support. His greatest skill is his ability to read a teleprompter, and it makes him seem charismatic.
Today we are dictated to by a government controlled by the Democrats: Obama, Reid and Pelosi. This was never the intent of the founders of our country and constitution, it was to be a government that listened to the population. The frustration felt by the citizens of the USA is being heard, but it is a backlash against the incumbents and the jam it down our throats process. This backlash is not enough.

Fathers Day
It is interesting to think about Fathers Day and the impact our Fathers have had on us. My Father passed away many years ago, and I am not adept at telling stories like my wife. You can read her posts about her Father at Chisamba.
My Father was a very quiet man, he lead a dynamic and violent life prior to joining the US Army. My dad suffered greatly in the last few years of his life. He was one of the first men to be officially diagnosed with breast cancer, and eventually the cancer had spread through out his body. It was not pleasant, but he persevered through out the ordeal, he wanted to live and do what he did day in and day out.
I knew little of his life in Bulgaria and what his family were like. The past few years I have had contact with the family, and still very little was said about the history of the family, etc. I did get a chance to see some photographs that I had never seen of my Father, including some of my sister and I.
As the years continue to the pass, I realize that society and people are changing. It will be a much different world when we pass then what we were born into. Changes were drastic from the 1800's to the 1900's and the same with 1900 to 2000. But just look at the last 30 years of change, it is a totally different world. You can compare it to the changes from the handwritten letters and the pony express compared to the telephone compared to the Internet, or the horse and buggy compared to the car compared to the airplane. Our world has changed and so have we as a people, neighbors, communities, towns, cities, states and a country.

when your son grows up...and you learn from him
Mikhail, my son, is taking his junior black belt test this weekend. I think this is a very honest assessment of the life of a child growing up into an adult. Just a few sentences and what we should all strive to do in our own lives, at home, at work, and even in our relationships.
Mr Moncelsi should give me my black belt because…..
I started karate because I thought Power Rangers on TV was really cool. My mom asked me if I wanted to do karate, and I said yes. We found Mr Moncelsi’s school, and I started as a white belt. I thought karate would make me tough, and I would be able to beat up the bad guys.
While I was at karate I learned other stuff.
Respect: Karate reminded me to be myself. It make me strong inside, and help me choose right from wrong. If you respect others, like my Mom and Dad, my sensei, my teachers, grandma’s and my cousins, they will love and respect me back. When people at school make fun of me, I have to remember to have self respect. I go to child study team, and they told me that they want to have power over me, by making me upset. If I truly respect myself, I can ignore them.
Self Control: Sometimes I think that I don’t deserve to be a black belt, because my buttons are easily pushed. I can get very angry. Especially when people tease me. They say shhhhh to me all the time, even when I am not talking, just because I don’t like very loud noise, like in the cafeteria. Karate reminds me to control my actions. To be a black belt, I do not have to be perfect; I have to always be my best at self control.
Courage: Courage is one of the reasons I came back to Karate. That and because my Mom kept bugging me about it. I was afraid that I lose my self control, and hurt someone some day. Then mom helped me understand that Karate helps me work on my self discipline, my temper, my focus and my physical health. I faced my fears and came back.
Temper: When I punch the bag in karate, and kick, it helps me get the anger out that I have toward those people that bully me. Punching and kicking also help me focus and calm down. It also make me fitter, and improves my physical health.
Integrity: Before I started karate I did not know what integrity was. Integrity is when you stand up for someone, or something. I hate it when people lie to me, so I try to be honest even if it’s hard. I apologize when I am wrong, and try to forgive people when they have hurt me. Always doing my best and never giving up is what karate taught me about integrity.
Learning: I love karate. I love it when I get a new technique right, even though sometimes learning new stuff is hard and confusing. Sometimes I want to cry, but I do not have to be perfect, so I just try. I like getting stronger. I run and walk at night, I learn my form, and practice, and I try to live up to the advice my sensei gives me.
I deserve my junior black belt because I have learned these things and want to keep on learning. I want to keep on doing karate even after I get my junior black belt.

The US Auto Manufacturers
Do we cry for GM and Chrysler? I think not. During the recent sales boom of cars these manufacturers never learned their lesson. They didn't invest in the automobile, they ignored the people so they could make trucks. This allowed Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and BMW to make significant headway into the US market, more so it allowed these car makers to build factories and build a work force.
What did GM, Chrysler and Ford do wrong- they avoided making cars that we wanted to drive. The Taurus was the only success and that was due to the leasing market. It wasn't a reliable, well built and enduring vehicle. We failed to continue to support the consumer that supported the Mustang which had millions in sales. Design and quality eluded the US car makers in the mid 70-s to the present.
The other problem is money management. None of these companies should have had a cash flow problem like they have presently. It is a lack of budgeting the coincided with poor manufacturing.
Shame on them and shame on us. Neither party has done what is right.

Pirates
It is sad that in a modern society that Captain Jack can still sail the seas in a little speed boat and a few automatic rifles. Modern technology and lack of ingenuity are shameful. We have satellites, we have Navies, but we let a little country torment the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. What has happened to world's Navy's that this is a continual problem? The unfortunate aspect of this is that many other impoverished and poorly governed countries decide that this is a fair means of making money?
I believe the world's governments should take a position on this individually, in a colaition, or through the UN (if they ever would do something). But to let shipping companies or merchants pay the ransom is just a pavlovian method of rewarding the pirates.
This is just insane.

War Funding
I am totally amazed that our country and president have to keep presenting a war budget. What is the problem? We know we are at war and will be at war, so what is the problem, can't we pass a fiscal budget that includes war funding?
We then have Congress complain about it. Whatever happened to war bonds? Our Congress has ignored the American people and the spirit that made this country great.
Our President and Congress need to get in tune and understand budgeting. Budgeting that is totally another story.
